Happy New Year - Carport Concrete

Happy New Year! You know how I love concrete, so I thought I'd post an update on our carport project. I got to use my tractor a LOT (tractor is my other love, well besides Goodie and all you guys). I leveled it up (Luke & Doug helped) and set the forms. I got some monsterous light poles from work - 4x4 inch 22 feet long and Mom suggested that I use them for forms (she can be brilliant - that's why she's my project manager). Fortunately, we're to the point where we can let someone else do the extreme labor.

Forms set, yes that is FROST on the roof - it was 25 degrees. Fortunately, it became a nice day.

Another form shot. Note Christmas wreath. Is Christmas REALLY over?

6:58 Cement truck arrives. Usually where I get butterflies and diahrrea, but not today!

Starting the pour. Yep, Bill has a full face ski mask on.

Continued pour. From this point on, I know it would bore most people (I loved it) so we'll move to the finished product.

Bill Smith arrived at 6 am and left at 4:30 pm. Good days work & Goodie and I LOVE IT! No more twisted ankles and walking through dirt and mud. It's only taken 23 years.

We then had a wonderful Chrismas and a great trip to Bend to work on Kim & Drew's house. We had a blast. Let's make it a great year!

J/K XMAS CONSTRUCTION 2011

As most of you know we have been working on our house (neverending) for Christmas everyone came up to visit and participate in some slave labor.  Kim and I are very appreciative of all the help, money and support!!!! Most everything is done the front room needs new carpet and baseboards and furniture and it will be complete.  The back room also needs new flooring (may be awhile), baseboards and we are good to go.  Still working on how the furniture will set in the back room so no completed pictures of that.  THANKS AGAIN!!!!!
Begining Demolition, the walls are coming down!!

Luke was a big help, not the cleanest worker, but obviously thats why he got a degree to be the boss and not the one that cleans up.
We worked late almost every night I feel bad because dad did not get to play much!  Of course it was his genius that kept the lights on, not sure we were within code but kept the house bright!
We cleaned and cleaned and cleaned just to stay ahead of the mess, the little shiney dust particles eventually landed everywhere, it took a week to get all of them picked up!
The new wall going up, had some good ideas thanks to my wife and mother, and once again dad was able to make everything work!
Luke sheetrocking where the old walls once were, he did a good job and once we did mud and spackle you can hardly tell there was a wall there.
New wall with sheetrock and a glimpse of one new fan.
Both fans, which look like a simple thing but dad had to make them work of one switch that also controls the speeds, and Kim want lights that dimmed.  We made it work and it looks great!!!
Entrance to the new and improved front room, dad using his artsy fartsy side to bust out a sweet archway!

New lights in the front room, spent a little time in the attic to get these and other wires run.
Archway with sheetrock, coming together nicely!!
Barbie putting the finishing screws in sheetrock, with Stefanie supervising her and me supervising them both, I am pretty sure dad was close by supervising all of us.  A glimpse at the sweet triple switch that run the new lights and fans.
Barbie working under the ladder (not code) which dad is standing on and dropping things on her.
Both new fans with some mud going in!
                                                                   1st coat of mud!
                                                                 The arch with mud!
                                                              Front room with mud!
All new switches to run new lights and fans, took some doing but they work AWESOME!
Mud where old wall use to be.
Last coat of mud on arch!
Textured arch, waiting to dry and get some paint!
New wall textured!

Texture where old wall once was!  This wall is now a sweet chocolate brown.
The mess!!  This was all over multiple days from days of sanding and mudding, and wall wrecking!!
                                                                     More mess!!!
                                                                 Even more mess!!!!
Finished front room with buffet in place, it fits PERFECTLY, with wall heater and thermostat.
Front room finished with old carpet put back in, grey accent wall.
New wall, lights, paint...... just waiting for carpet and baseboards!
                                                   OUR BEAUTIFUL ARCHWAY!!!!!!!!!
New wall (family room side) will do another blog on family room when we get situated!
